An update on the New Car the build process for RPV03 rotary hillclimb racing car.

Although we have been running this new car for a few years now I thought it would be good to show the build process of this new carbon chassis car.

Below is a rough timeline and very compressed version of the build that we did on this current car the process took just over 12months to complete.

We first purchased a new carbon fiber chassis Tub from OMS Racing in the UK late in 2017. The chassis we selected was an OMS 28 carbon tub. OMS has been running this chassis in the British Hillclimb championship for a few years before we purchased our chassis, and this chassis has won the British Hillclimb championship so this is why we decided to start with a good base chassis and manufacture with our new build.

The tub arrived in early February in 2018.

Sequential gear box from Elite racing transmissions

We wanted this new car to have a better gearbox than we were using on the old car so we purchased a 6 speed sequential gear box from the Elite racing transmissions out of the UK.

We then set-about making the Mazda Engine fit by making an adaptor plate to bolt the gearbox to a Mazda RX4 bell housing and then bolt this to a Mazda 13B engine.

We then set-about making the Engine & gearbox fit by making a chassis out of Chrome-molly tubing and then fabricating uprights and drive shafts. This was a long process as you can see by the photos.

The new engine was going to be running on methanol so no need for an inter cooler to save weight but a new inlet manifold had to be made.

The engine was rebuilt and a new lightweight clutch was fitted to help with reducing weight etc.

We had friend paint the chassis in Lambo Orange just to make it look the part.

We finished bolting the chassis all together at the start of 2019.

After the build and setting up the car we had mixed results over the last 2 years we have tried to get the most out of the car.

And with the 2022 season starting soon we are now getting ready for the first round of the Hillclimb series at Mt Cotton on the 5th & 6th March 2022, I hope to see everyone there ready for a great year of Hillclimbing.
