Lakeside Karousel Hillclimb 19th & 20th Sept 09
This Hillclimb was held in association with the Lakeside Classic Speed Festival 2009. Queenslanders were privileged to have this Lakeside circuit running for many years until it was closed a few years back. But the Lakeside raceway was re-opened under the Queensland Raceway management and they organized his Festival to show people what type of Motorsport that is held in Queensland. They featured different forms of motorsport there was some racing and there were also demonstrations of vehicles as well as some Historic Motorcycle racing.
There were good crowds of spectators on both days that attended the Lakeside Classic Speed Festival 2009 with sunny and very hot track conditions.
Darren Duffield and his RPV01 had a turbo problem on Saturday during the first Hillclimb session. The RPV01 started to blow a lot of smoke and after investigation the turbo oil seal was the fault. So Darren and his pit crew Ron quickly removed the damaged turbo and then re-fitted the spare turbo, all with enough time to get ready for the 2nd session on Saturday afternoon.
Warwick Hutchinson and his RPV02 had over heating problems that only allowed him to do 2 laps of the Lakeside track in each session. The car had no other problems other than one of the rear wing support brackets shearing off two rivet’s due to the high speeds involved. The calculated speed under the bridge which was the finish for the hillclimb was approximately 228 km per hour. This is the fastest that the RPV02 has ever gone but it handled it well.
