Autobarn – MG Noosa Hillclimb Results 29th & 30th June 2013.

This Hillclimb was organised by the MG Car Club of Queensland and the Noosa Beach Classic Car Club’s. It was sponsored by the Autobarn stores at Gympie and Nambour. So thanks go to the two car clubs and to Autobarn for sponsoring this Hillclimb again this year.

Saturday’s practice run started around 11 o’clock and went until 12.00, most of the people running took part in the non-timed practice to hone their skills for the main event. With the rain continuing the first official runs started with most people running staying out of trouble but a few cars had some off’s, none of the cars that had issues during the weekend were badly damaged. With colder than expected weather the track was cold and slippery for the first runs on Sunday morning but the track improved over the day to make the track better but still tricky and slippery in places. With 5 runs on Sunday and 3 on Saturday the entrants had 8 official runs over the weekend.

With 96 cars taking part in this event there was only 3 Rotary Hillclimb Racing Cars competing in this hillclimb, Scott Trenoweth (Mazda RX7 – 13B), Lou Szekely (Mazda RX7 – 13B) and Warwick Hutchinson’s (RPV02 13B Turbo) their best times are listed below.

Scott Trenoweth in his beautifully prepared Mazda Rx7, this was Scott’s first Hillclimb since repairing the car from a slight altercation with the wall at the Australian Hillclimb Championships at Bathurst in November 2012. He was running well all weekend at one stage he was 4th outright, but as the track dried out the times dropped. Scott did not run the last run as the rain made the track slippery again. Scott finished 6th outright with a time of 64.48 sec.

Lou Szekely in his Mazda RX7 had a good weekend, but with helping the club run the event and competing he was a very busy man, well done Lou it is people like you that keep events like this Hillclimb running. Lou was running in Marque Sports 2001 & Over Class, against 8.3Lt V8 Dodge Viper’s and a few Porsche 911’s so he had his work cut-out. Lou finished 69th outright and credible 4th in class.

Warwick Hutchinson in his RPV02 Formula Libre also had a good weekend with a wet & slippery track he found it difficult and was a little off the pace but finished well for the weekend.

The Rotary Hillclimb Racing Cars competing and their best times were –

Warwick Hutchinson (RPV02 13B Turbo) 57.94 – (1st in Class & 1st Outright)

Scott Trenoweth (Mazda RX7 – 13B) 64.48 (1st in Class & 6th Outright)

Lou Szekely (Mazda RX7 – 13B) 76.57 (4th in Class & 69h Outright)
