QHC HILLCLIMB Results 31st May & 1st June 2014.
The 2014 Whites Diesels Queensland Hillclimb Championships were run beautiful weather conditions that Queensland’s having become familiar with sunny and dry. The Saturday practice had all drivers running just checking that their cars were ready for the main event on Sunday.
Sunday had fierce competition, this resulted in a new track record. Victorian Brett Hayward breaking the outright record, lowering it now to 35.71 sec. on his 3rd run giving him the QHC title. Second outright was Bill Norman with a time of 37.55 and third outright was Warwick Hutchinson with a time of 38.74 sec.
Major trophies went to:
Tasman Building Society Perpetual Trophy for Fastest time of day: Brett Hayward (35.71 sec.)
Glyn Scott Perpetual Trophy for fastest time by a sports car: Darren Read (41.78 sec.)
Martin Tighe Trophy for best Formula Ford : Rick Miles (45.92 sec.)
Vince Appleby Trophy for fastest sedan: Daryl Small (45.54 sec.)
Paul Aitken Trophy for best average time by a motorcycle powered car: Brett Hayward (36.50 sec. “Average time”)
Hamilton Trophy for best performance by an historic vehicle: Barry Smith by lowering the record by – 5.49 sec.
John English Trophy for fastest time by a Queenslander: Warwick Hutchinson (38.74 sec.)
Accurrate Suspension top total: Brett Hayward (219.02 sec. total Time for all 6 Runs)
Rotary Hillclimb Racing Cars
In total there was 4 Rotary Hillclimb Racing Cars entered in this year’s QHC with a 3rd outright and 1st in class going to Warwick Hutchinson in his RPV02 (38.74), Darren Duffield in his RPV01 with a 13th outright 4th in class (42.07), Cameron Hurman in his Mazda Rx7 with a 41st outright 4th in class (49.40) and Steve Torpey in his Mazda Rx7 with a 44th outright 5th in class (50.29)
It was also good to see Darren Duffield back out running his Rotary 13b Turbo open wheeler, Darren had starter motor problems on the last few runs and is still tuning the suspension to suite his new gearbox & rear suspension changes the he has done, great to see that Darren’s hard work is all paying off.
Cameron Hurman and Steve Torpey both in different model Turbo Mazda Rx7’s did well, there class was very competitive. This class “Marque Sports – 2001cc & Over” was won by Mark Crespan in his Cobra with a new class record an impressive (43.61 sec.) on his last run. With 6 official runs on the day Cameron set his fastest time on his 5th run with a time of (49.40 sec.) while Steve Torpey set his quickest time early in the day on his 2nd run with a time of (50.29 sec.)
