TIGHE CAMS HILLCLIMB, ROUND 3, 7th & 8th August 2010.
The third round of the Tighe Cams series for 2010 was another 2 day event. The 99 entered competitors were able to get three runs in from 12 o’clock on Saturday afternoon and another four runs on Sunday plus the top six shootout. Saturday and Sunday were ideal winter days just perfect for hill climbing with the majority of the cars keeping on the track with no major problems.
There were a few records broken over the weekend, one of them was Michael Collins in his Subaru WRX. Michael’s time was 42.35 sec this is the fastest sedan ever to run around the Mt Cotton track, well done Michael how much quicker can you go!
Rod Johns also broke the long standing Formula Libre up to 1300cc record of 40.04 (set by John Davies) Rod set a time of 39.79 well done Rod keep the good results coming.
Great to see Phil Harrys back at Mt Cotton, running a 13b rotary powered Mazda 323 Sports Sedan, this was Phil’s first outing in his new car. Phil has not driven around Mt Cotton Hillclimb in approx. 6 1/2 years but did well to set a time of 53.02 sec hopefully there is more to come.
Darren Duffield was ready to get a good result as he had just blitzed the field in Rockhampton, by winning the first ever Rockhampton Street Sprints 2 weeks earlier and was hoping to continue his great form.
Darren had a few electrical issues on Saturday that limited his engine power and his times were not his best, he thought that all was fixed on Sunday morning but the Rotary Hillclimb Racing Car RPV01 did not finish the first run. This is unusual as the car has not had any problems before, let’s hope that it can be fixed as Darren is running the car at Leyburn in a few days time. Although Darren only completed 2 runs on Saturday he finished 3rd in Class and 6th outright.
Cameron Hurman in his RX7 – 13B T did well over the weekend but to buck the trend Cameron set his fastest time of 49.67sec on his 2nd run on Saturday and was unable to better that time but still ran a 49.99 sec on his last run of the day on Sunday.
Warwick Hutchinson in his RPV02 was consistent over the 2 days with his best time of 39.60sec on the 2nd last run on Sunday, but he set a personal best time of 39.08sec in the top six shootout at the end of the day.
There were 4 Rotary Hillclimb Racing Cars entered in this round of the series, Darren Duffield (RV01– 13B T), Cameron Hurman (RX7 – 13B T) Phil Harrys (Mazda 323 – 13B PP) and Warwick Hutchinson (RPV02 – 13B T).
