TIGHE CAMS HILLCLIMB, ROUND 5, Sunday, 9th August 09.
It was another beautiful day at Mt Cotton for this round 5 with the weather warm and ideal for some fast times on the track and with only 73 competitors this round we were expecting about 6 runs.
Alan McConnell and Rod Johns were impressive once again with sub 40 second runs. Warwick Hutchinson in his RPV02 came tantalizingly close to doing a sub 40 time with a time of 40.09 seconds. Darren Duffield in his RPV01 not far behind with a time of 41.02.
The rotary hillclimb racing car (RPV02) of Warwick has finally sorted out his braking problems and now has more confidence in the car so the next hillclimb he is hoping to reach the evasive 39 seconds. What Warwick had found with his brake issue was the brake pad compound was wrong, the first compound that he tried was not allowing him to feel when the brakes would lock-up and this was not allowing him to drive the car with confidence in the brakes. He fitted a brake pad compound from Performance Friction Brakes and this has made the car very predictable under hard braking and this has allowed him to push the car to very impressive times. Let’s hope that there is more of this to come.
Darren Duffield in another rotary hillclimb racing car (RPV01) was running on almost 2 year old tyres and considering that Darren’s times were very quick, we can’t wait until the new tyres get here to see Darren run around Mt Cotton under 40 sec.
There was only 2 Rotary Hillclimb Racing Cars competing in this round of the series, Warwick and Darren their best times are listed below.
The Rotary Hillclimb Racing Cars competing and their best times for the day were:-
Warwick Hutchinson (RF92-RPV02 13B Turbo) 40.09
