TIGHE CAMS HILLCLIMB, ROUND 4, Sunday, 5th July 09.
It was a cool and crisp typical Queensland winter morning that greeted the 86 competitors ready to compete in the 4th round of the Tighe Cams Hillclimb series.

Highlights of the day included Allan McConnell’s 38.68s run and Rod Johns backing up his impressive sub 40 second runs at the Queensland Hillclimb Championships with 3 runs in 39’s with his best time in the top 6 shootout of 39.46. One of the rotary Hillclimb racing cars competing also impressed with Darren Duffeild in the RPV01, personal best time in the top 6 shootout of 40.41, well done Darren 39’s are not too far off!!
The top 6 shootout current points as at the end of round 4 stands as 1st Darren Duffeild RPV01 (20), 2nd Rod Johns Hawk Mk2 (16), 3rd Allan McConnell Van Diemem RF85 (13), 4th Warwick Hutchinson Van Diemem RF92 RPV02 (11), Michael Collins Subaru WRX (10) and in 6th Bill Norman GEK (10).
There was a couple Rotary Hillclimb regulars missing from this event, Simon Witt in his Mazda RX7 12A Turbo and Nathan Ferdinands who normally drives a Rotary Hillclimb Racing Car (Locost Clubman 13B Turbo) Nathan was competing but not in a Rotary he was driving a Toyota Celica as he has sold the Rotary clubman to a friend of his, we hope to see a Rotary in the engine bay of the Celica soon, we can only hope!
The rotary hillclimb racing car (RPV02) of Warwick was still having issues with the braking system, the front brakes were locking without too much effort. We adjusted the bias all the way to the rear but this was still not enough to made a major change, so we had to try to get a good time with the car as it was but the best we could get was in the top 6 shootout with a time of 41.77.
Darren Duffeild was running around consistently in low 41s but he was not content with that and in the top 6 shootout he put his head down and run around the track in a time of 40.41 to lock in 3rd in the top 6.
