Friends Of Mt Cotton (FOMC) Hillclimb Round 1 14th April 2013.
The weather for Sunday was a very welcome change from the heavy rain that had fallen on Saturday. Although the sun was shining the track was very wet in the top of both loops, the competitors attacked the track with the respect it deserved, with only a few mishaps over day. There were a large number of appreciative spectators all eager to watch the 58 competitors that had entered this event.
This Hillclimb had only 2 rotary Hillclimb racing cars entered in 2 different classes.
Cameron Hurman running his Mazda RX7 in a Modified & Invited Cars Inc. Road Reg. – 2001cc & over.
Cameron started his first run with a time of 54.87 sec this time reflected the still wet track conditions, but the track started to dry-out over the day. Cameron left the best time to the very last run of the day with a time of 50.60 sec the car sounded great and good to see another rotary Hillclimb racing car running.
Warwick Hutchinson in his (RPV02) entered Formula Libre – 1301cc & over.
His first run was 46.26 sec and he managed to trim that down to 43.47 on his 2nd run, but his engine had a miss-fire and he opted to not run the car in favor of protecting the engine. (As it turned-out the problem was a loose injector wire the Warwick had not fitted correctly. We can be sure that that won’t happen again, this was the first time in long time that we have not seen the RPV02 running in the top 6 shootout.)
The 2 Rotary Hillclimb Racing Cars competing in this Hillclimb, their best times are listed below.
Cameron Hurman (Mazda RX7 – 13B Turbo) 50.60 sec – (2nd in Class & 20th Outright)
Warwick Hutchinson (RPV02 13B Turbo) 43.47 – (2nd in Class & 2nd Outright)
It was also very good to see a few new open-wheelers running at this Hillclimb. All trying to get time at Mt Cotton as the Queensland and Australian Hillclimb Championships are here this year.
Two of the newer competitors were Daryl Watt driving his Force PC and Ed McCane driving his Hayward 089.
Ed had the upper hand and won the event outright with the fastest time of the day of 41.83 and he won the Top Six Shootout with a time of 42.35 well done, it’s good to see more cars having a run at our Mt Cotton Hillclimb.
