It was great weekend at Noosa for the 12th annual Noosa Historic Hillclimb on the 14th & 15th November 2009, with very hot weather it was ideal for some fast times on the 1.5 Km track. There were 167 competitors competing this year and all ready to attack the track, the rotary hillclimb racing cars of Warwick Hutchinson and Darren Duffield finished first and second outright for the weekend.

Warwick had added 2 cooling fans for the weekend to the car to keep it cool during each run and the fans did a great job. At the start of each rub the engine water temp was 65 degrees C and at the end of the run it was 92 degrees C and with the fans running for the return run back to the pits the temp ended up at 84 degrees C, so the fitting of the fans had a good outcome.

Darren had fixed the turbo that was damaged during the Hillclimb at Lakeside a few months ago, and the car ran very strong all weekend. Darren was also running a new RHS drive shaft on his car, as he had broken one at Mt Cotton at the last round of the Tighe Cams Hillclimb Series. The shaft held up well to keep the RPV01 in contention all weekend.

There were a lot of high points over the weekend but there were a few low points with quite a few cars crashing and getting badly damaged like Lou Szekely’s beautiful Blue Mazda RX7 Series 2 after rolling his car on one of the runs. Other vehicles coming to grief were a Ferrari 308 GTB and a very well presented E Type Jaguar both of which rolled during the 1.5 Km runs.

There was only 4 Rotary Hillclimb Racing Cars competing in this Hillclimb.

Warwick Hutchinson (RF92-RPV02 – 13B Turbo)
Darren Duffield (RPV01 – 13B Turbo)
Scott Trenoweth (Mazda RX7 Series 1 – 13B)
Lou Szekely (Mazda RX7 Series 2 – 13B Turbo)
