Noosa Hillclimb Results 17th & 18th July 2010

Noosa Hillclimb 17th & 18th July 2010.

This Hillclimb was organised by the MG Car Club of Queensland and the Noosa Beach Classic Car Club’s. It was sponsored by the autObarn stores at Gympie and Nambour. So thanks go to the two car clubs and autObarn for a very well organised event and well promoted.

The hillclimb was a 2 day event with 116 cars entered, due to the well run event and great timing the competitors were able to get three runs on Saturday afternoon and another four on Sunday. Saturday was ideal for hillclimbing and the majority of the cars stayed on the track. Sunday was also ideal for hillclimbing a number of competitors had “offs'” including Warwick in the rotary hillclimb racing car, but not too much damage was sustained.

There were only 3 Rotary Hillclimb Racing Cars entered in this Hillclimb and they all did extremely well with the 2 Mazda Rx7’s of Scott Trenoweth and Ken Luxton running in the improved production 2001 & over Class and Warwick Hutchinson in the open wheeler special running in Formula Libre 1301 & over Class.

Scott Trenoweth's RX7 - Noosa 2010

Scott Trenoweth in his RX7 (13B) set a new club record with the best timed run of 61.76 on the last run of the day. Ken Luxton in his RX7 had changed the engine from a 12A to a Bridge-port 13B to get more power. This had the desired result as Ken best time was the 2nd run on Sunday with a time of 65.49 this time was over 3 seconds better than Ken has ever been at the Noosa Hillclimb, well done and keep up the good work.

Warwick's RPV02 - At Noosa Hillclimb 18th July 2010

Warwick Hutchinson also set a new club record with the best timed run of 54.10 on the 2nd last run on Sunday. Warwick did not have all the runs go the way he wanted as the 2nd run on Sunday went all wrong in turn 10, when under braking for the entry of turn 10 the rear wheels lost grip. This spun the car into the center of the turn running the car up on the grass and up the embankment. This off-road incident took out 4 witch’s hats (+ 5 seconds each) and damaged the front wing. All that had to be done to get the car ready for the next run was to straighten up the wing end plates and the mounting brackets. Lucky there was no major damage done.

The series of photos below were taken from the on car video camera they show how rough the ride was.

All good, see it was just a slight mishap but it could have been a lot worse.
