TIGHE CAMS HILLCLIMB, ROUND 5, 30th & 31st October 2010.
Round 5 of the Tighe Cams Series for 2010 had 103 entered competitors. Unlike the last few Hillclimb’s the great weather allowed the competitors to get a good three runs on Saturday afternoon and another dry three on Sunday plus the top six shootout.
There were 4 Rotary Hillclimb Racing Cars entered in this round of the series, Simon Witt (RX7 – 12A T), Darren Duffield (RPV01- 13B T), Cameron Hurman (RX7 – 13B T) and Warwick Hutchinson (RPV02 – 13B T).
Simon Witt in his RX7 – 12A Turbo was running after a short break during this time Simon has rebuilt the engine and was running data logging in his car. Simon’s data showed that he was pulling 1.3 g around the Mt Cotton track, the data also shows speed oil pressure and throttle position as well as a lot more. It was the first time that Simon has used the data logging so it will be good to see how this information helps with getting the car sorted. Simon finished this round 5th in class and 43rd outright.
Darren Duffield had work commitments on Saturday so he could only run his RPV01 on Sunday. After having gearbox issues Darren wanted to test gear ratios in the spare gearbox, he had gear selection problems that would not allow him to select the correct gears. Darren ran the car getting off the start line and leaving the car in the 2nd gear for the rest of the track. It must have worked as Darren’s best time was 43.77 sec. Although Darren had gear box issues he finished 2nd in Class and 8th outright.
Cameron Hurman in his RX7 – 13B T was entered in this round but did not run on Saturday or Sunday.
Warwick Hutchinson in his RPV02 was consistent in his RPV02 but he was not able to get under the 40 seconds although he did his best time in the top six 40.06 seconds. He was pushed hard by Rod Johns who was only 4 hundred’s of a second behind Warwick in the top six shootout.
The Rotary Hillclimb Racing Cars entered and their best times were –
Warwick Hutchinson (RPV02 13B Turbo) 40.27 – (1st in Class & 1st Outright)
Darren Duffield (RPV01 13B Turbo) 43.77 – (2nd in Class & 8th Outright)
Simon Witt (RX7 – 12A Turbo) – 50.48 – (5th in Class & 43rd Outright)
Cameron Hurman (RX7 13B Turbo) – DNR

2nd Rod Johns – 40.10
3rd Simon Lake – 40.43
4th Michael Collins – 42.52
5th David Homer – 44.06
6th Brian Kirkby – 44.77
