Hillclimb Results Round 1 – TSA & SR Automotive Hillclimb Series 21st & 22nd Feb 2014

TSA & SR Automotive Hillclimb Series Mt Cotton – Round 1 21st & 22nd Feb 2014.

This was the first round for the new sponsors of the Hillclimb series for 2014. This year the series is proudly sponsored by TSA (Trenching Systems Australia) and SR Automotive (Stewart Reid Automotive). With out their support this series would not have been organized. So thank you to both companies for supporting Australian “Grass Roots” motorsport.

This was a 2 day event starting at 11.30 Am on Saturday and finishing on Sunday afternoon.

The weather for Saturday was overcast and cool all the competitors that attacked the track, with only a few mishaps over the day. There were a large number of spectators all eager to watch the 62 competitors that had entered this event.

Sunday’s weather was better than Saturday sunny and worm and the battles on-track was fierce through all the class’s entered. The only major mishap was in the top six shoot-out when Ed Mc Cane who set the fastest time of the day at 39.03sec, had a off in the 2nd loop on a very quick run. Ed was ok but unfortunately his car was badly damaged.

This Hillclimb had 3 rotary Hillclimb racing cars entered in 2 different classes.

Cameron Hurman running his Mazda RX7 in Modified & Invited Cars Inc. Road Reg. – 2001cc & over.

Cameron started his first run with a time of 50.77 sec, Cameron only ran the first 3 runs on Saturday with a total of 10 out of the 12 runs for the weekend, and his best time was on the 3rd run on Saturday with a time of 49.11 sec the car sounded and looks great, love the rotor sound!

Steve Torpey running his Mazda RX7 also running in Modified & Invited Cars Inc. Road Reg. – 2001cc & over.

Steve’s first run was a time of 54.43 sec he ran the first 4 runs on Saturday but had inter-cooler pipe problems which must have been major as he did not run at all on Sunday. Steve’s best run was run 4 on Saturday with a time of 50.93 sec good to see another rotor having a go at Mt Cotton.

Warwick Hutchinson in his (RPV02) entered Formula Libre – 1301cc & over.

His first run was 40.92 sec, he had oil surge issues and did not run the last 2 runs on Saturday to see if he could fix the issue. Warwick’ s best time was a 39.53 sec he did this on the very last run on Sunday.

 

The 3 Rotary Hillclimb Racing Cars competing in this Hillclimb, their best times are listed below.

Cameron Hurman (Mazda RX7 – 13B Turbo) 49.11 sec – (4th in Class & 23rd Outright)

Steve Torpey (Mazda RX7 – 12A Turbo) 50.93 sec – (5th in Class & 30th Outright)

Warwick Hutchinson (RPV02 13B Turbo) 43.47 – (2nd in Class & 2nd Outright)

2nd Neal Lewis (DBF 1265) – 40.02

3rd Paul Van Wijk (Zip GP) – 42.31

4th Darren Billington (ArrowK2) – 43.56

5th Vern Hamilton (Elfin 623) – 45.40

6th Ed McCane (Hayward 09) – DNF
