TIGHE CAMS HILLCLIMB, ROUND 1, Sunday, 15 March, 2009

The Tighe Cams series has proved so popular that the first round attracted about 30 more entries than were able to be accommodated in the series and in the first round so while there were 110 happy competitors there were also a large number of disappointed ones.

Highlights of the day were runs by Rod Johns (Norris Hawk Mk2) which had him tantalizingly close to breaking the magic 40s mark and the breaking of three records, one by Steve Price (Westfield) who broke his own record, one by Geoff Noble in his Lotus Elise (shattering Norm Singleton’s previous record) and the other by Mark Trenoweth (Jaguar sports sedan) who broke a pre-2000 record thus collecting the prize of $500 which had been offered by the Club for the first person to achieve this. Mark generously donated the money back to the Club as sponsorship for the Queensland Hillclimb Championships in June.

The good organisation of the day left time for the presentation of trophies and it was gratifying to have only two or three trophy winners unable to stay for the presentation. Rod Johns took out fastest time of day and the Top Six trophy while Most improved award (for the first time competitor at the hillclimb who consistently improved their times throughout the day) went to Brian Kirkby.

Next round of the series will be held on May 17th.
